NS Series 2400 (Era 1950-1970) for TS Classic
===========================================
During the same period as the 2200/2300 series were built by Alsthom, this builder also maintained a production line for a universal diesel-electric loco for light to medium goods service, intended for the railways in the Franco-African territories. In order to speed up the transition from steam to diesel traction, the NS placed an order for 130 units of this series in 1954. Five compartments are housed on a fully welded steel frame, in which successively the air equipment, the coolers, the diesel engine with generator, the cabin and the batteries are housed. Another French factory, the SACM, supplied the 12-cylinder engines. The locos could be run in multiple-unit, i.e. two or more locomotives could be operated by one driver. The locomotives served with NS until the 80s. Seven locos were sold to Volker Stevin for the construction of a port in Saudi Arabia. Another batch ended up in France, being pressed into SNCF service as motive power for the building of TGV routes. Of this group, the 2454 and 2459 were repatriated and completely restored into working condition with STAR and the VSM preservation societies respectively.
